Carboguard 893 is a high-performance, multi-purpose epoxy coating designed by Carboline for use in various industrial environments. This versatile product is engineered to deliver superior protection against corrosion, chemical exposure, and physical wear, making it ideal for maintenance and new construction projects.

Key Benefits:

Excellent Corrosion Resistance: Carboguard 893 offers exceptional protection against corrosion, particularly in harsh environments such as marine, offshore, and industrial settings. It forms a robust barrier that shields steel and other substrates from the damaging effects of moisture, salt, and other corrosive elements.

Chemical Resistance: This coating is formulated to resist a broad spectrum of chemicals, including acids, alkalis, solvents, and fuels. This makes it an excellent choice for facilities where exposure to harsh chemicals is a concern, such as chemical plants, refineries, and wastewater treatment facilities.

Durability and Impact Resistance: The coating's tough epoxy formulation provides excellent resistance to abrasion and physical impact, ensuring long-lasting protection even in high-traffic areas.

Low-Temperature Cure: Unlike many other coatings, Carboguard 893 can be applied and cured at low temperatures, down to 35°F (1.7°C), allowing for greater flexibility in application and scheduling.

Common Industry Applications:

  • Marine Environments: Protects steel structures, tanks, and equipment exposed to saltwater and marine atmospheres.
  • Chemical Plants: Ideal for areas with frequent chemical exposure, including storage tanks, pipelines, and processing equipment.
  • Offshore Platforms: Provides long-lasting protection against the corrosive effects of seawater and harsh weather conditions.
  • Power Plants: Suitable for protecting structural steel, piping, and other components in both fossil fuel and nuclear power facilities.
  • Pulp and Paper Mills: Ensures durability and chemical resistance in harsh industrial environments.

COVERAGE RATES

4 - 6 mils (102-152 microns) per coat

6.0-8 mils (150-200 microns) over light rust and for uniform gloss over inorganic zincs. Don't exceed 10 mils (250 microns) in a single coat. Excessive film thickness over inorganic zincs may increase damage during shipping or assembly.

  • 200 SF/gal at 6.0 mils (4.9 ms/l at 150 microns)
  • 300 SF/gal at 4.0 mils (7.4 ms/l at 100 microns)
  • 1,200 SF/gal at 1.0 mils (29.5 ms/l at 25 microns)

Allow for loss in mixing and application

MIXING INSTRUCTIONS

Ratio: 1:1 (A to B)

Power mix separately, then combine and power mix. DO NOT MIX PARTIAL KITS.

THINNING

Spray: Up to 10% with Thinner #2
Brush:  Up to 25% with Thinner #33
Roller: Up to 25% with Thinner #33

Mist coating: Thin up to 32 oz/gal (263 g/l) with Thinner 2 or 33 in VOC restricted (2.8 lb/gal) areas. May thin up to 48 oz/gal where VOC restricted levels are at 3.5 lb/gal (0.42 kg/l) for mist coat only.
If necessary, use Thinner 230 only in hot (above 100°F/38°C) and windy conditions, to slow down the evaporation rate.

Alternate Compatible Thinners for Atmospheric Service: Carboline Thinner 2, 10, 15, 76, 225E, 229, 236E, 243E, 248 and Plasite Thinner #19 or #20

LIMITATIONS

Do not apply over latex coatings. For immersion projects, use only factory made material in special colors. Consult Carboline Technical Service for specifics.
Epoxies lose gloss, discolor and eventually chalk with UV sunlight exposure.

Pot Life: 4 Hours at 75*F (24*C)
Pot life ends when coating loses body and begins to sag. Pot life times will be less at higher temperatures. Thinning rates above 16 oz/gal will shorten the working life to 2 hours.
