Carbozinc

Carbozinc

Carbozinc is an inorganic zinc-rich primer used primarily for corrosion protection of steel substrates. Its core function is to provide galvanic protection, where the high zinc content (85% zinc dust in the dry film) sacrificially corrodes to shield the underlying steel from rust and degradation.
This makes it an exceptional choice for environments where steel is exposed to harsh conditions, offering long-term durability and resistance to corrosion even in aggressive atmospheres.

Applications:  Prevent corrosion in atmospheric, marine, and industrial settings. Carbozinc also serve as a standalone primer or as a base layer beneath topcoats for enhanced performance

Marine: Ship hulls, offshore platforms, drilling rigs, piers, and coastal structures.
Industrial: Steel tanks, pipelines, structural steel in factories, chemical plants, refineries
Infrastructure: Bridges, water towers, railings, steel framing
Power Generation: Steel components in power plants, cooling towers, and exhaust stacks
Oil and Gas: Storage tanks, Pipelines, and Valves

Carbozinc 11

Carbozinc 11 is a time-honored, corrosion-resistant coating renowned for its superior galvanic protection of steel, even in the most severe conditions. For more than 50 years, it has set the benchmark as the leading choice for high-performance inorganic zinc protection across global steel structures.

This coating can be applied to faying surfaces of steel structures to prevent corrosion where metals are in contact. Its zinc content provides cathodic protection to steel, making it suitable for applications where maintaining the integrity of the steel is critical over long periods. Carbozinc 11 is capable of protecting in environments with extreme pH levels or where chemical exposure is high.

Carbozinc 859

Carbozinc 859 by Carboline is a low VOC organic zinc-rich epoxy primer designed specifically for fast turnaround and in-shop applications where quick curing is essential. It's known for its rapid cure-to-topcoat properties, allowing for recoating in as little as 30 minutes under optimal conditions (75°F / 24°C and 50% relative humidity).  The primer is available in a green color, though custom colors might be possible upon request.

The best use of Carbozinc 859 is in industrial settings where speed of application and durability are critical. It's particularly well-suited for use on steel structures in industries like oil and gas, petrochemical, marine, and manufacturing, where surfaces need to be protected against corrosion in both new construction and maintenance scenarios.  It's also used on faying surfaces as it meets Class B slip coefficient and creep testing criteria, ensuring structural integrity where steel components are bolted or welded together.

Bitumastic

Bitumastic is a coal tar epoxy and coal tar mastic coatings designed for heavy-duty corrosion protection of steel and concrete substrates.  These coatings leverage coal tar’s inherent water resistance and durability, combined with epoxy or mastic binders, to create robust barriers against moisture, chemicals, and abrasion.

Application: Bitumastic provides corrosion protection shielding steel and concrete from rust and deterioration in wet, corrosive, or chemically aggressive environments. it also acts as a lining or coating for structures submerged in water or buried below grade that are exposed to constant moisture.
Marine & Offshore: Ship hulls, piers, pilings, and offshore platform components in splash zones or immersion. Bitumastic by Carboline withstands saltwater exposure and marine corrosion, often meeting standards like those of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE) for coastal infrastructure.
Water & Wastewater: Sewage treatment plants, water tanks, clarifiers, and concrete piping. Bitumastic resists prolonged water exposure, sewage chemicals, and abrasion, though not recommended for potable water systems unless specified otherwise.
Infrastructure and Government/Military:  Dams, lock gates, and concrete foundations in aggressive environments. This meets specifications like SSPC-Paint 16 and AWWA C-210, offering long-lasting protection for public works and military installations.
Pulp and Paper: Steel and concrete equipment exposed to moisture and chemical byproducts

Bitumastic 50

Bitumastic 50, manufactured by Carboline, is an ultra-high build, single-component coal tar mastic designed to provide robust protection for steel and concrete substrates. It serves as a heavy-duty coating that shields surfaces from aggressive conditions, offering excellent corrosion resistance and the ability to be applied up to 30 dry mils (750 microns) in a single coat. Its self-priming nature and single-coat capabilities make it a practical choice for efficient application, and it dries to a low-gloss finish without requiring a topcoat.

This product is primarily used in environments where durable protection against corrosion and moisture is critical. It is especially suited for below-grade damp proofing, such as foundations and underground structures, and is commonly applied in industrial settings like pipelines, petrochemical facilities, and marine applications. Its formulation complies with specifications like MIL-C-18480-B and Bureau of Reclamation CA50, indicating its reliability in demanding scenarios, though it is not permitted for use in California due to regulatory restrictions. Essentially, Bitumastic 50 is a go-to solution for safeguarding infrastructure in harsh, corrosive, or wet conditions. specific application examples alternative corrosion coatings

Bitumastic 300m

Bitumastic 300M is a two-component coal tar epoxy coating designed for heavy-duty corrosion protection of steel and concrete surfaces. It combines a coal tar base with an epoxy resin, resulting in a high-build, durable finish that excels in harsh environments. This coating is known for its excellent resistance to water, chemicals, and abrasion, making it a reliable choice for long-term protection in aggressive conditions.

Bitumastic 300M requires mixing its two components—Part A (the coal tar base) and Part B (the epoxy hardener)—before application. It can be applied using spray equipment (conventional or airless), brush, or roller, typically in two coats to achieve the recommended dry film thickness of 8-16 mils (200-400 microns) per coat, with a total system thickness often around 16-20 mils (400-500 microns). Surface preparation is critical: steel surfaces need a near-white blast cleaning (SSPC-SP 10) for immersion service or a commercial blast (SSPC-SP 6) for non-immersion, while concrete must be clean, dry, and cured.
