Carboline Bitumastic 50 Coal Tar Coating
This coating is black in color and has a solids content of 68% ± 2% by volume and can be applied in one or two coats with a dry film thickness of 18 mils (457 microns), up to 30 mils (750 microns) in a single coat. It’s self-priming with single-coat capabilities and complies with standards such as MIL-C-18480-B and Bureau of Reclamation CA50.

Bitumastic 50 is used in harsh industrial, civil, and buried applications where steel or concrete requires robust protection from corrosion, abrasion, and immersion up to 120°F (49°C). Common applications include:
- Below-Grade Structures: Damp proofing for foundations, retaining walls, basements, and buried concrete/steel elements exposed to soil moisture and aggressive groundwater.
- Pipelines and Tanks: Interior and exterior linings for underground pipelines, storage tanks, and vaults in petroleum, chemical, or wastewater systems.
- Wastewater Treatment Plants: Coating for concrete manholes, sumps, channels, and steel supports in areas subject to sewage, effluents, and corrosive fumes.
- Civil Engineering Projects: Protection for dams, bridges, and reclamation structures per Bureau of Reclamation specs, including submerged steel piles and concrete surfaces.
- Industrial Facilities: Maintenance coating for machinery bases, equipment supports, and floors in refineries, chemical plants, or manufacturing sites with soil or chemical contact.
- Military and Marine Installations: Corrosion barrier for buried or semi-buried steel components in non-potable immersion service, compliant with MIL-C-18480-B.
