Add grip to any coating — Carboline Non-Skid Filler No. 1 makes slip-resistant surfaces simple.

Non-Skid Filler No. 1 is Carboline's non-metallic, non-silica aggregate additive designed to convert standard thin-film coatings into high-performance slip-resistant surfaces. Just mix it into your coating — no constant agitation required, no special equipment, no need to reformulate your system. Its smaller particle size maximizes shoe-to-surface contact, providing superior wet- and dry-traction performance compared to larger aggregate fillers, even in demanding industrial environments.

Where it's used:

  • Industrial Floors and Walkways — Adds reliable non-skid properties to epoxy floor coatings in manufacturing plants, warehouses, and processing facilities where slip hazards are a safety concern
  • Marine and Offshore Decking — Non-sparking filler is suitable for use in environments where spark-generating aggregates are prohibited
  • Commercial and Institutional Floors — Compatible with high-solids epoxy systems used in garages, loading docks, and institutional facilities requiring OSHA-compliant slip resistance
  • Wet or Chemical Exposure Areas — Non-skid performance holds up even when surfaces are wet — outperforms larger aggregate fillers in wet-condition traction

Key specs (per Carboline PDS, July 2016):

  • Type: Non-metallic, non-silica, non-sparking filler
  • Mix ratio: 1 lb per mixed gallon of coating (consult Technical Service for application-specific rates)
  • Mixing: Power mix A & B components separately, combine, then slowly add filler while continuing to power mix — no continuous agitation needed after initial mixing
  • Commonly used with: Carboguard 890, Carboguard 690, Carboguard 60, Carboguard 635 — consult Carboline Technical Service for other compatible products
  • Shelf life: 60 months at 75°F (24°C)
  • Storage: 40°–110°F indoors; 0–100% relative humidity

Available in 5 lb containers.

Application Notes — Non-Skid Filler No. 1

📌 Non-Skid Filler No. 1 is an additive, not a standalone coating — it is mixed directly into a compatible thin-film coating before application. It does not replace your coating system; it upgrades it with slip-resistant properties. See the Compatible Coatings section below to choose the right base coating for your environment.
Property Value Notes
Filler type Non-metallic, non-silica Non-sparking — suitable for environments prohibiting spark-generating aggregates
Loading rate 1 lb per mixed gallon of coating Consult Carboline Technical Service for application-specific rates
Mixing — two-component coatings Power mix Part A and Part B separately, then combine and power mix Slowly add filler while continuing to power mix until fully homogeneous
Agitation after mixing Not required Non-settling formula — no constant agitation needed once filler is incorporated
Application method Per host coating PDS Always consult the individual PDS for the coating being used
Shelf life 60 months at 75°F (24°C) Store indoors; 0–100% relative humidity
Storage temperature 40°–110°F (4°–43°C) Store indoors — do not expose to extreme heat or freezing
Flash point N/A Non-flammable filler
⚠️ Important: Non-Skid Filler No. 1 must always be used in conjunction with a compatible coating — it is not applied on its own. Dry time, recoat intervals, surface preparation, and application conditions are all governed by the host coating's PDS. Always review and follow the individual product data sheet for the coating you are using. Consult Carboline Technical Service to confirm compatibility before using with products not listed in this PDS. Source: Carboline Non-Skid Filler No. 1 PDS (July 2016, doc 4457).

Compatible Coatings — What Do You Mix Non-Skid Filler No. 1 Into?

Industrial floors & decks Non-Skid Filler No. 1 + Carboguard 890 (high-solids epoxy — most common pairing)
Chemical-resistant floors Non-Skid Filler No. 1 + Carboguard 690 (high-build epoxy for aggressive chemical environments)

Non-Skid System — Industrial Floors & Walkways ☆ Most Common

For manufacturing plants, warehouses, loading docks, and processing facilities requiring a slip-resistant floor with excellent chemical and abrasion resistance. Carboguard 890 is the most commonly used host coating for Non-Skid Filler No. 1 and provides outstanding durability in wet and chemical-exposure environments.

Finish Coat — You Are Here Carboguard 890 + Non-Skid Filler No. 1 1 lb filler per mixed gal · high-solids epoxy · non-slip
Non-Skid System — Aggressive Chemical Environments

For floors and secondary containment areas exposed to aggressive chemicals, solvents, or frequent wash-down. Carboguard 690 provides a higher level of chemical resistance than Carboguard 890 and accepts Non-Skid Filler No. 1 to deliver traction in environments where spills and wet surfaces are common.

Non-Skid System — Light-Duty Industrial & Commercial

For light-duty floors, ramps, stair treads, and walkways in commercial or light industrial environments. Carboguard 60 and Carboguard 635 are compatible host coatings for applications where a full high-solids epoxy system is not required. Consult Carboline Technical Service to confirm the right product for your specific exposure conditions.
