Seal masonry before you topcoat — Sanitile 100 Block Filler does it right the first time.

Sanitile 100 is Carboline's heavy-duty waterborne acrylic block filler, purpose-built for filling and sealing concrete masonry unit (CMU) surfaces, concrete block, and poured concrete in both aggressive and mild environments. Single component, low odor, and ready to apply as supplied — no mixing ratio, no pot life pressure, no special solvents. Topcoat with acrylics, epoxies, or polyesters, depending on your service requirements.

Where it's used:

  • Food and Beverage Facilities — USDA approved for use in inspected facilities; ideal base coat for food-grade wall systems in processing plants, breweries, and dairies
  • Wastewater Treatment Plants — Fills and seals CMU and concrete exposed to mild chemical and atmospheric corrosion prior to high-performance topcoats
  • Commercial and Industrial Buildings — Gymnasium, warehouse, and parking structure walls requiring a smooth, pinhole-free base prior to finish coats
  • LEED-Certified Projects — Qualifies as a block filler (not classified as a thin-film paint) for LEED projects requiring low-VOC primers or finishes
  • Institutional Construction — Schools, hospitals, and government facilities where SCAQMD-compliant low-VOC products are specified

Key specs (per Carboline PDS, August 2025):

  • Solids by volume: 54% ± 2%
  • DFT: 5–16 mils per coat · second coat may be required on high-porosity surfaces
  • Coverage @ 5 mils: 173 ft²/gal theoretical · Coverage @ 16 mils: 54 ft²/gal theoretical
  • VOC: 0.4 lbs/gal (50 g/l) — SCAQMD compliant (<100 g/l)
  • Single component — no mix ratio, no pot life, ready to use as supplied
  • Thinning: up to 6 oz/gal potable water for spray only (not normally required)
  • Dry to touch: 30 min @ 75°F · Recoat with itself: 60 min · Recoat water-base topcoat: 18 hrs · Recoat solvent-base topcoat: 48 hrs
  • Dry temp. resistance: 170°F continuous · 200°F non-continuous
  • USDA approved · SCAQMD compliant · LEED block filler applicable
  • Not for floors or immersion service

Important before you apply: New masonry and stucco must cure a minimum of 3 days before application; poured-in-place concrete requires 7 days minimum. If the surface pH is above 9, prime with Sanitile 120 before applying Sanitile 100. Do not apply to damp, wet, or frozen surfaces, and do not apply if temperatures will drop below 35°F within 24 hours of application. Backrolling is required immediately behind all spray applications to ensure adequate filling of surface irregularities. Store indoors and keep from freezing.

Available in 5-gallon containers. Use the Coverage Calculator on this page to size your order before you buy.

Application Notes — Sanitile 100 Block Filler

📌 Sanitile 100 is a base coat — it fills and seals the masonry surface before topcoating. Always apply a compatible finish coat once Sanitile 100 has fully cured. See the Coating Systems section below to choose the right topcoat for your environment.
Property Value Notes
Thinning Up to 6 oz/gal potable water For spray only — not normally required
Recoat with itself 60 min @ 75°F Second coat may be required on high-porosity surfaces
Topcoat (water-base) 18 hrs @ 75°F e.g. acrylic finish coats
Topcoat (solvent-base) 48 hrs @ 75°F e.g. epoxy or polyurethane topcoats
New masonry / stucco 3-day cure minimum Before applying Sanitile 100
Poured concrete 7-day cure minimum Or whenever pH is below 9
Surface pH above 9 Prime with Sanitile 120 first Apply Sanitile 100 after Sanitile 120 cures
Backrolling Required behind all spray passes Ensures adequate filling of surface irregularities
⚠️ Key limitations: Sanitile 100 is not approved for floors or immersion service. Do not apply to damp, wet, or frozen surfaces. Do not apply if temperatures will drop below 35°F (2°C) within 24 hours of application. Avoid application in direct sunlight. Store indoors and keep from freezing. Coating Systems — What Goes Over Sanitile 100?

Interior industrial Sanitile 100 → Carboguard 890 (epoxy finish, chemical resistant)
Exterior / weathering Sanitile 100 → Carbothane 134 HG (aliphatic polyurethane, UV-stable gloss)
Exterior, low-VOC Sanitile 100 → Carboxane 2000 (isocyanate-free siloxane hybrid, maximum weathering)

Two-Coat System — Interior Industrial & Chemical Environments ☆ Most Common

For food processing plants, wastewater facilities, and industrial interiors where chemical resistance and a durable smooth finish are required. Carboguard 890 provides excellent chemical and abrasion resistance over the sealed Sanitile 100 surface. Allow 48 hours after Sanitile 100 before applying solvent-borne epoxy topcoat.

Block Filler — You Are Here Sanitile 100 5–16 mils DFT · CMU / concrete · single component
Finish Coat Carboguard 890 4–6 mils DFT · epoxy · chemical resistant
Two-Coat System — Exterior Masonry, UV-Stable Gloss Finish

For exterior CMU walls, gymnasium and commercial building exteriors, and institutional facades requiring a durable high-gloss finish with excellent UV and color retention. Carbothane 134 HG provides SSPC Paint 36 Level 3 weathering over the sealed block surface. Allow 48 hours after Sanitile 100 before applying solvent-borne polyurethane.

Block Filler — You Are Here Sanitile 100 5–16 mils DFT · CMU / concrete · single component
Finish Coat Carbothane 134 HG 2–3 mils DFT · aliphatic polyurethane · UV-stable
Two-Coat System — Exterior Masonry, Maximum Weathering & Low VOC

For exterior structures in demanding weathering environments where isocyanate-free application and maximum long-term UV resistance are required. Carboxane 2000 exceeds SSPC Paint 36 Level 3A — the highest weathering standard for polyurethanes — with no isocyanate hazards. Allow 48 hours after Sanitile 100 before applying.

Block Filler — You Are Here Sanitile 100 5–16 mils DFT · CMU / concrete · single component
Finish Coat Carboxane 2000 3–7 mils DFT · siloxane hybrid · isocyanate-free
